The Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial welcomes the Asian Pacific Islander American Historic Preservation Forum 2024 to the island! A contingent of more than 100 national delegates will travel from Seattle to Bainbridge Island for a series of presentations at the Pocock Rowing Center:

• “BATTER UP! The Manzanar Baseball Project, and Sport as Liberation Activity” – Dan Kwong, Artist & Community Organizer [California]
• “Making Monuments through Storytelling: Beyond the Barbed Wire” – Frank Abe & Friends of Minidoka [Idaho]
• “Preserving History, Building Communities: The Mukai Farm & Garden Restoration” – Friends of Mukai [Washington]
• Advocacy Updates from Amache, Minidoka, Topaz and Tulelake with Natasha Verner (Densho) and Dan Sakura (Minidoka Pilgrimage Planning Committee and Tule Lake Committee) and pending Wakasa Memorial Committee (Topaz).

The presentations will be followed by a tour of the Exclusion Memorial and a visit to the historic Filipino American Community Hall to learn about the deep history of Japanese, Filipino, and Indipino communities on the island.
