Free Screening at Bainbridge Public Library

Join us for a special screening of Alternative Facts: The Lies of Executive Order 9066, a powerful documentary that uncovers the false information and political pressures that led to the incarceration of more than 120,000 Japanese Americans during World War II. The film reveals how government officials manipulated and suppressed key evidence, resulting in Supreme Court rulings that upheld the mass exclusion and imprisonment.

Decades later, courageous attorneys used coram nobis petitions to bring hidden evidence to light and successfully vacate the wartime convictions of Fred Korematsu, Gordon Hirabayashi, and Minoru Yasui. Their victories exposed grave misconduct and restored justice to three American citizens who had resisted unconstitutional orders.

More than a history lesson, Alternative Facts highlights how fear and prejudice can erode constitutional protections—and why vigilance in defending civil liberties is as vital today as it was then.

This free community screening is generously hosted by the Bainbridge Public Library in partnership with BIJAEMA. We especially encourage those planning to attend the Civil Liberties Symposium on October 5, 2025, to view the film in advance. It provides an excellent overview of the cases and history that will frame the Symposium discussion. All are welcome!
