Upper Memorial Closed for Construction
***Updated 10/5/2025***
The upper level of the Exclusion Memorial will be closed to the public from October 1, 2025 through September 2026. This includes the driveway from the upper parking lot to the lower parking lot at Pritchard Park, the Memorial parking lot, the Pavilion, the boardwalk from the bus stop to the Pavilion, and the path from the upper Memorial to the interpretive loop.
Please respect all signage and fencing. They are required by the City of Bainbridge Island for safety, erosion control, and tree protection. Please stay on the paths–climbing our forested hillsides alters the landscaping and promotes unwanted erosion.
The lower Memorial–including the Memorial Wall, Departure Deck, and interpretive walking loop–is open daily. An alternate entrance to the lower Memorial has been established near the head of the Memorial Wall that can be accessed via a footpath leading from the bus turnaround. There is no beach access from the Memorial grounds.
The Memorial is open for private, educational tours. To schedule a tour, make your request here.
Alternate Parking for the Memorial
***Updated 10/5/2025***
Alternate parking is curbside in the Memorial bus turnaround. To reach the bus turnaround, turn left from Eagle Harbor Drive at Taylor Avenue. The bus turnaround is the circle drive on the immediate right. The National Park Service trailer is located there, and the gated entrance to the lower Memorial is approximately 50 yards down the gravel driveway. Follow the signs.
Do not proceed down the gravel driveway to the private marina at the bottom of the hill.
Eagle Harbor Drive CLOSED at Head of the Bay
***Updated 10/5/2025***
Eagle Harbor Drive at the head of the bay is now open.
—————————————————————-
Eagle Harbor Drive, the most direct route from the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal to the Exclusion Memorial, will be closed to vehicle traffic from July 16-Early October. A detour marks an alternate route from the terminal:
Please plan on extra time to reach the Exclusion Memorial from many locations on the island.
Work Commences on Water Line Installation on Eagle Harbor Dr
***Updated 10/5/2025***
Construction on the water line is now complete. Pressure testing will be done in early November, but should not cause significant delays at the entrance to the Pritchard Park parking lot.
***Updated 9/7/2025***
The City of Bainbridge Island has issued the Notice To Proceed (NTP) to the contractor installing the water line from Creosote Hill to the Visitor Center. Work has commenced as of mid-August. The project has a completion date of September 30th.
Construction will disturb traffic from Old Creosote Hill Road to the entrance to Pritchard Park. The water line will be installed in the southbound lane of Eagle Harbor Drive, affecting traffic in both directions as traffic is directed to one lane. Please check back for updates.
